Abstract

This article analyzes the historical development of research on code-switching from
early sociolinguistic studies to modern syntactic theory. It traces the evolution from descriptive constraints
to formal theoretical explanations and shows how minimalist linguistics integrates bilingual data into
Universal Grammar.
