Abstract

Speaking fluency is major aspect of speaking skills, which ensures coherence and confidence in expressing English language learners’ speaking ability. The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years has significantly transformed the landscape of language teaching and learning. Among the emerging technologies, ChatGPT, an advanced generative AI model, has gained global attention for its capacity to simulate human-like conversation and provide interactive language practice. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of ChatGPT in improving speaking fluency among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Speaking fluency is analyzed through measures such as speed, accurancy, pausing patterns, vocabulary usage, and confidence. The study employs a mixed-methods design involving pre- and post-texts, classroom observations, and learner perception surveys. Findings reveal that ChatGPT significantly enhances learners’ fluency, reduce speaking anxiety, and increases motivation to engage in oral communication.
