THE RELATIONSHIP OF ETHNOCULTURAL COMPETENCE WITH THE COMPETENCE OF "INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION": AN INTEGRATIVE MODEL

Abstract

This thesis conceptually analyzes the relationship between the competence of “intercultural communication” (ICC) and ethnocultural competence (ECC) in the activities of higher education students and bases them on an integrative model. ICC is aimed at negotiating content, adapting language and speech norms, managing uncertainty, and establishing cooperation in different cultural contexts. ECC, on the other hand, represents the ability to responsibly interpret the ethnocultural identity of a person, regulators of values, the semantics of traditions, and cultural heritage. The analysis showed that the two competencies are in a “foundation-manifest” relationship: if ECC forms a cultural-axiological basis, ECC, relying on this basis, becomes an effective and acceptable behavior in real communication. The model explains the transfer of knowledge and values ​​into communicative practice through internal outcomes (reflection, empathy, ethnorelative perspective) and provides methodological guidelines for competency-based education and assessment.
