Abstract
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Tatar community played a key role in the cultural and educational life of the Turkestan region. This activity acquired particular significance in the Fergana Valley, where the Tatars became conductors of modernization ideas, disseminators of education and active participants in social processes. This article examines the contribution of Tatars to the development of education, the press, religious thought, theatrical activity and social activism against the backdrop of all-Russian and regional transformations.
