FOSTERING CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES

Abstract

This article examines the importance of developing
critical thinking skills in English language classrooms. In contemporary education, critical thinking is viewed as an essential ability that enables
learners to analyze information, evaluate different viewpoints, and
clearly express their own ideas. The paper discusses several effective
teaching techniques that can be used to encourage critical thinking,
including classroom discussions, debates, problem-solving tasks, and
project-based activities. It also emphasizes the teacher’s role in guiding
students and creating a positive learning environment where learners
feel confident sharing their thoughts. In addition, the article identifies
several challenges teachers may encounter when trying to develop
critical thinking in language classes and suggests possible ways to
address them. Strengthening critical thinking abilities in English lessons
not only improves students’ language proficiency but also prepares them
for real-world communication and independent learning.
