Abstract

This article examines derivation as a key process of
word-formation in English. Derivation creates new lexical items from
existing words through affixation and other morphological changes. The
study analyzes the relationship between a base word and its derivatives,
known as a word family. It also considers the structural and semantic changes that occur in derivational processes. The analysis shows that
derivation plays an important role in expanding vocabulary and
developing linguistic competence.
