Abstract

This article explores the role of cultural awareness in
teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) within multicultural
educational contexts. It underscores the significance of integrating
cultural knowledge into language instruction as a means of enhancing
learners’ communicative competence and fostering deeper intercultural
understanding. The study further investigates how culturally responsive
teaching practices can facilitate not only the development of language
proficiency but also learners’ ability to engage in meaningful crosscultural communication. It emphasizes the importance of incorporating
authentic cultural resources—such as literature, films, digital media,
and real-life communicative tasks—into the EFL curriculum. Such
approaches encourage active participation, promote critical thinking, and
help learners develop greater sensitivity toward cultural diversity.
