Abstract

This article offers a scientific and theoretical analysis of the artistic and aesthetic features of the landscape genre in the fine arts. It elucidates the origin of the landscape genre, its stages of development, and its distinctive aspects in Eastern and Western art. Particular attention is given to the formation of the Chinese landscape school, its philosophical and artistic foundations, and the influence it exerted on other regions, including Japanese art. The article also gives a broad account of the superior possibilities of the landscape genre in painting and of the significance of such means of expression as composition, color, and light.
