Abstract

The article analyzes the tasks and problems facing the modern system of music education. Music education is interpreted not as being confined to teaching instrumental performance or singing, but as a complex process directed towards the comprehensive development of the personality. The principal tasks of the field are grouped into three directions: spiritual and aesthetic education — forming a high artistic taste in students, instilling respect for the national heritage and for world classical music, and developing emotional intelligence; cognitive and creative development — strengthening independent thinking and visual and auditory memory through improvisation, composition and musical analysis; and professional mastery and competencies — ensuring that the graduate is competitive in the labour market.
