MUSICOLOGY AS A SCIENCE: HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT AND THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS

Abstract
This article analyzes the formation, development and theoretical foundations of musicology. The study examines the processes through which musicology emerged as an independent science, its principal directions and its present state. The article reveals the interrelation of the historical, theoretical and applied fields of musicology, as well as the main tasks and objectives of musicology as a science. The findings of the study show the formation of musicology as an independent scientific field in the 18th–19th centuries, its methodological enrichment in the 20th century, and the development of contemporary scientific and theoretical schools.
